Family Councils can help in conflict resolutions

Several family relation writer have proposed the use of Family Council to help resolve family conflicts.
Discussing the issues and brainstorming solutions in a non threatening atmosphere can be useful.  Besure to write dow the agree solution.  What has been your experience?
