Family - Ties and History

Goal: Awareness Of Blessings Of Family Ties Through Interaction, with Stories, Journals And Family Histories Of The Living And Dead As A Foundation For Life Experiences.

This agenda item includes maintaining connections with family members both living and dead. To do this we created journals, wrote letters, visited family and attended reunions, did genealogy research, read and wrote family histories and linked family members together forever.

Because we have lived away from our family most all our lives, maintaining relationships with grandparents, cousins and brothers and sisters has been a priority.  As the children have grown up and moved out of the home, maintaining the family relationship has also become a priority. When the children were small one Family Council assignment was to monitor the writing of letters and drawing of pictures for grandparents.  As the children have grown other avenues of communication have developed including weekly phone calls and internet video conversations.

The development of personal identity with the dead through family history stories and temple work has been incredibly rewarding. It has added an additional dimension to the children's lives to understand the stories and histories of their DNA. Learn more of how Family Councils have provided support in the three areas of: stories of the living and dead, Family ties to the living and Family ties to the dead.
