Family Devotionals We humans have a dual nature- physical and spiritual, both need nourishment. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with renewed emphasis on families has provided some excellent resources for regular weekly spiritual enrichment. The Come Follow Me program and gospel study manuals provide hands on study and laboratory experiences to inculcate eternal trues and doctrine into the bodies, mind and spirits of family members. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/come-follow-me?lang=eng
Likewise the Church’s new youth goal and activity programs with emphasis on four goal areas – Spiritual, Social, Physical and Intellectual, can augment youth physical and spiritual development. (See, Special Family Council Agenda Topics) https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/personal-development-youth-guidebook/ideas-for-growing-in-all-areas-of-life?lang=eng The Family Council can be used to implement goals and manage/track plans with both programs within the family daily routines. Family Home Evening Family Home Evening can still be a part of the family devotional routine and assignments can also be made during family council. This allows time for family members to prepare. The executive secretary can make these assignments with guidance from father and mother. This will help increase the quality and substance of the Family Home Evening event. We have generally worked on a rotating method as the children became old enough to give the lessons. Some lessons were pre-assigned but we generally asked the family members to share material that they feel the family needed. (Some lessons revolved around the Life Tasks outlined below.) We have used the Church provided Family Home Evening materials plus Church magazines for lesson topics, particularly the General Conference talks. There are wonderful materials available to support family home evening activities at https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/?lang=eng
