OVERVIEW:
- What is an Individual Council?
- It is the setting aside of a time to meet with oneself, under God’s direction, for self-evaluation, planning and executing one’s plans to effectively deal with issues and concerns that promote overall progress and growth.
- It is a time to reflect on personal progress, make decisions on one’s life, meet challenges, and resolve issues
- What is the goal of effective use of an Individual Council?The goal is to become self-reliant men and women who can live lives that are more Christ-like to be able to return to live with Heavenly Father.
- What are the elements of an Individual Council?
- Use a calendar to schedule tasks, etc.
- Create a Mission Statement based on the three-fold mission of the Gospel to perfect the individual, proclaim the Gospel to all, and redeem the dead.
- Your mission statement gives you direction as to the specific goals you hope to accomplish
- Identify challenges/issues you need to work on to include personal, mental, physical, spiritual, etc.
- Plan and execute your plans to meet and/or resolve these challenges and issues
- How do I formulate a plan for my Individual Council?
- Establish a format for your “meeting” time with yourself.
- Be certain your format is dated.
- Have a prayer at the beginning and close of your session.
- Keep minutes each time for review
- Have a calendar to list tasks, appointments, etc.
- List items you will work on to achieve your goals—immediate, weekly, yearly, or life goals
- How do I execute my plan for my Individual Council?
- Know that this is God’s pattern (as the Grand Council in heaven in dealing with issues)
- Commit to diligently working your plan using written outlines, minutes, agendas, etc.
- Set aside a set time to work on your plan. Consistency and regularity brings success.
- Pray for humility and courage to work on your plan and have faith that you will become more Christ-like as you diligently do so.
